The Teen Vogue Handbook?

Aspiring to work in fashion? then this is the book for you! I found it by chance when I was scouring through Amazon and I came across this little gem when I was searching for some fashion based books and I am super glad I brought it. I have been looking for quite some time for a book that informs me of all the careers in the fashion industry, a book that had a wide burst of knowledge and contained information that would help me and I eventually found ‘The Teen Vogue Handbook’.

It was published a while ago (a few years back I think) but it has a lot of information in it from advice tailored for people wanting to be stylists to designers to editors from all the biggest names in the fashion world and it has so much to give an aspiring fashion industry lover like myself, hence why I am writing a mini review on it now because it’s rather a good book and cheap too from amazon! 🙂

Liebster Award Nomination!

liebster_award
So a BIG thank you to Carlie because she kindly nominated my blog for a Liebster award! I have never really understood or known much about the Liebster award and this is a great privileged to be nominated! All I know about the Liebster award is that it is an award passed around by bloggers who in turn nominate their favourite bloggers and blogs to answer questions and then nominate others, this helps everyone get to know more about each other and shows a mass of support and promotes others blogs as well as your own.

So this is the requirements for this Liebster award:

  • The chosen nominee gives 11 facts about themselves
  • Answer the questions given to them by their nominator which in my case is Carlie!
  • Link back to the person who nominated them again in my case that’s Carlie 🙂
  • Nominate 11 blogs they love with under 200 followers & give them 11 questions made up by you and let them know you have given them the award as well 🙂

So let’s begin! 11 facts about me:

  1. I have a double jointed thumb! Gross to some but I find it cool because it gives me an advantage when playing thumb wars!
  2. When I listen to my iPod I like to change the song always before it ends, I’m just a little impatient.
  3. I once dyed my hair orange by accident, trying to achieve blonde. Safe to say I am happy being brunette still.
  4. My favourite animal is a Great White Shark!
  5. I have two tattoos at the moment, a medium sized cross on the left side of my back and a little Chinese symbol on the right side of my back.
  6. I once had pierced ears when I was like 10, I had unicorn earrings and my ears had an allergic reaction leading to me having to take them out and my piercing holes closed up and I have never had my ears pierced since.
  7. I love cheese, I think it’s brilliant!
  8. I completed Grand Theft Auto 5 in just about 4 days, I got very little sleep but it was worth it.
  9. I love volunteering and taking an interest in ways I can help people, animals and such because it makes me feel happy 🙂
  10. I love my writing to look neat, if it doesn’t I will re-write everything until it looks presentable.
  11. My favourite flower is a daffodil, but because they are only available a certain time of year I also love roses as well.

So that is 11 facts about myself, now onto the 11 questions Carlie asked!…

 1) Sum up your blog in one sentence – Positive
2) What is the funniest selfie you’ve ever taken? (bonus points for putting it up!) – Probably this one….
photo

3) Favourite skincare Brand? – I’d have to say either Clearasil or Nivea.
4) What do you order from a coffee shop? – A cup of tea and a muffin 🙂
5) What languages do you speak? – Basic and I mean basic Japanese, French, Spanish.
6) What’s your favourite movie? – I have to many favourite movies!
7) If you could meet one blogger face to face, who would it be and why?- I’d love to meet all the bloggers that have supported me and my blog face to face because they’re all so lovely.
8) When putting make up on, what do you generally play up? (eyeliner? bright lipstick?) – I tend to generally concentrate more on my eyes, so eye shadow and mascara!
9) What is your go to food of choice? – Lasagne with garlic bread!
10) In any given week, how many ways would you say you style your hair? – I’d say dependent on weather, at least 3 or 4.
11) What has been your most rewarding experience so far? – My most rewarding experience so far would be both my blog and also helping out with charity work in various places.

So now onto my questions for my nominees! >>>

  1. Name someone who inspires you (Famous/non famous)?
  2. What’s your favourite colour and why?
  3. Tea/Coffee?
  4. Do you have a blogger you are exceptionally close to and how did you start becoming so close?
  5. Favourite season of year?
  6. If you could go back to any period of time in the past where would you go and why?
  7. Something you hate?
  8. Something you have learned from blogging?
  9. Favourite type of film?
  10. How long do you spend blogging each week?
  11. Most prized possession?

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST THE NOMINEES!

Thank you once again Carlie for nominating me! I loved joining in and I hope the girls I nominated enjoy it just as much! 🙂

Changes, changes, changes!

So I haven’t really wrote a blog post in quite a while and that’s down to a lot of factors like university and also my inability to work out where I want my blog to go from here (Sigh). Many of you may know that I started blogging back around April last year and it is something I quite enjoy doing, I have gained some lovely followers and on top of that I find blogging to be quite fun! But this year I would like my blog to go in a different direction, before my blog was about fashion, beauty and such but now I would really like to move to an all round blog where I do not have to just post one specific genre of posts and I get to post about everything and anything from places I may travel, food I cook or try, life goals and inspirations, general chit chat and everything else you can think of because I think it will be quite a good boost for my blog and myself to be able to feel free to write about anything I like and that’s what blogging is about in the end 🙂

So this post is just to let you all know, I wont strictly be a fashion/beauty blog anymore although I will still do some fashion and beauty inspired posts among many others that are to come 🙂

I hope you all stick around to see this year with me!

Saturday Blogger Interviews – Tara Joy

Name: Tara Joy

Location: Florida

Age: 19

What sort of things do you blog about most: I mostly blog about product reviews, outfit posts, and some personal stuff here and there. It’s a big combination of anything and everything I feel like talking about.
Name three words to describe your blog: Relaxed, chatty, and of course, bow-filled.
When did you first start blogging: I first started blogging in May of 2012.
Why did you begin to blog: I started blogging because I needed someone to chat with about clothes, makeup, and skincare. I was definitely talking off my beau’s ear and there was only so much talk about different lipstick finishes he could handle. It was a fun idea I had toyed around with and I’m so glad I did it.
What’s one blogging tip that you would share with other potential bloggers: Don’t pay attention to the numbers. The #1 thing I couldn’t care less about is how many people follow or read what I have to say. Of course, without followers there isn’t a lot of interaction, but I don’t understand the big deal. I loved my blog at 3 followers and I still loved my blog the same at 300 followers. If you’re doing it for the numbers maybe that’s the wrong reason to.
Do you see yourself still blogging in three/five years time: Absolutely. It’s something that is more than a hobby to me. It makes me feel really connected to my girly side. I love being able to talk to people about the things that make me happy and blogging is one great way to do it.
What’s one of the best things about being a blogger: I just love the fact that we are all into talking about the same things. It’s so nice to be able to look to tons of awesome people for opinions on anything and everything you could possibly imagine. It’s a cool thing.
Has blogging helped you significantly in any other way: Blogging has helped me stay glued to the camera. I grew up wanting to be a photographer and to go to art school. Even though I’m not in art school, I like having reasons to get behind the camera and be artistic.
Name one thing that inspires you: My friends are a huge inspiration to me. Honestly, they’re all so fun loving and goofy. All of us have very different distinct senses of style and I love to mix up my own style with some add ins of theirs like graphic tees and trainers.

Saturday Blogger Interviews – Ashlyn Shore

Name: Ashlyn Shore

Location: Vancouver, BC

Age: 23

Facebook/Twitter: @Ashlyn_Shore (No Facebook)

What sort of things do you blog about most:
I blog about anything really, but usually it’s book reviews and articles. My articles are about writing tips, advice, story structures, anything that may be useful to other writers. Sometimes I post short stories to let my readers know what my writing style really is. My book reviews are usually about books I’ve read and loved, but also the books that aren’t as popular as Harry Potter or The Hunger Games. I even blog about my opinions of things, like books and movie adaptions.

Name three words to describe your blog: inspirational, informative, and creative.

When did you first start blogging:
A little while after my birthday, exactly on June 28th 2013, so not that long ago. One day I just woke up with hundreds of page views and followers, it was a dream come true for any blogger. I actually tried blogging a few years back, ultimately failing to attract readers and I gave up on all of them. I’m glad I continued with this one, though!

Why did you begin to blog:
Before I began blogging, most of my friends and family knew I took creative writing seriously. I wanted to express myself through my writing, but clearly it wasn’t strong enough. Then one day a friend came up to me and suggested I start a blog to express my thoughts and feelings about writing. I considered it and created my blog through Blogger. It was actually quite fun, and to this day I feel that I can truly express myself in any way through my blog.

What’s one blogging tip that you would share with other potential bloggers:
Focus on the content of your blog, what you have written, the appearance, and manage all your useful widgets. Don’t waste your time attracting readers if there is nothing good to read. Always remember, content first, promotion second.

Do you see yourself still blogging in three/five years time:
I see myself blogging until I publish my first book. There is no way to tell when that will be, but surely more than four years. I will continue to blog and help boost confidence in others as my writing skills improve. Even after I publish a book or two, I won’t abandon my blog, but instead, expand my knowledge and share even more with my ever-growing number of readers.

What’s one of the best things about being a blogger:
One of the best things about being a blogger is connecting with your readers. Usually, your readers are those who have similar interests with you, which is what draws them to your blog. When you connect with your readers and make friends with them, you can exchange advice and ask them what they would like to see on your blog next. That way, your blog will become even better and your readers will like how you consider each of their opinions. It’s also great to run into another blogger. They can give you tips and secrets that will help enhance your blog. So it’s always great to connect with those around you whether through blogging or in life.

Has blogging helped you significantly in any other way:
Through blogging, I learned to grow through my writing and have confidence in myself. Before I would be more reluctant before writing something in my stories, but now I would just take the chance and go back to it later in my second draft. Sometimes you just have to take the chance follow your heart in the right direction it takes you. Blogging has definitely boosted my confidence and made me a better person.

Name one thing that inspires you:
Nature. I’m more country than I am city and I absolutely adore strolling through gardens and forests. Sometimes when I hear a rustle in the bushes nearby, my inner idealist takes over. There could be anything in there, from a fairy to a bear! I like taking photos of my surroundings when I’m hiking a forest trail or relaxing in a garden. That way, I can always look back at them at home and maybe spark an idea for another story to post on my blog.

Where Have I Been Hiding & Journey To Be A Fashion Journalist Updates!

ieiert  gregf

Hey Everyone!

So as you may have realized I haven’t been posting as much as I usually do and that’s because I have had quite a hectic but positive week! For those of you that follow my blog for updates on my journey to become a fashion journalist, well I have some little updates for you! Firstly I am now writing for another two new magazines who have a large readership so that’s quite exciting, not to mention one of the magazines is also American which is a great way for me to expand my experience in journalism and magazines globally.

So now I write for 4 magazines, some on a weekly basis and others on a monthly basis which is fine by me as I love writing and the flexibility fits in great with my life! So my fashion and journalism experience is adding up now so I made a mini list so you can see what I have accomplished this month:

  • Becoming a Fashion Ambassador for Fashion156.com
  • Writing for another British based magazine
  • Writing for an American based magazine
  • I have done my first ever model photo shoot in 1960’s and 1980’s vintage clothing
  • Completed lots of promotional exchanges with many online stores

Well moving on, I have finished my first year of University a week ago and traveled home for Summer break so I have been catching up with my family back in North London so I haven’t been posting much! But now I am starting to post more often, so bare with me guys! 🙂

I have been reading endless Vogue and ELLE magazines lately, I never use to buy them because they were quite pricey but now I am just starting to read them and I love the content. I also went into my local library and I found the March Issue of Vogue for 30p! So I brought that as it was a bargain.Image

Saturday Blogger Interviews – Blogger Amyloo

Image

Name: Amyloo

Location: Oxfordshire (UK)

Age: 17 (Almost 18!)

Blog link: http://amyloosworld.blogspot.co.uk

Facebook/Twitter: https://www.facebook.com/AmyMaddisonFineArtist & https://twitter.com/AmyloosTweets

What three things do you blog about most: I mainly write about art, books and beauty. But I have many passions so I always make room for fashion, lifestyle and music related posts to. (I like to call it ‘The home of creativity’).

Name three words to describe your blog: Creative, inspirational and fun!

When did you first start blogging: I first started blogging just over a month ago (sometime in April) and I’m so glad I did!

Why did you begin to blog: You could say up until the point I first started blogging, my life hadn’t turned out quite how I’d envisioned. I needed a rather large distraction, a place where I could sit back, relax and be myself. As a child I was an incredibly enthusiastic writer, so I was a little shocked that blogging had never occurred to me before. On top of that I was also looking to build meaningful relationships with other bloggers (that’s you guys *cough* Mary *cough*). Overall though its my passions that formed ‘AmyloosWorld’.

What’s one blogging tip that you would share with other potential bloggers: I would say never ignore the other wonderful bloggers around you. We shouldn’t forget we’re all in the same boat here. Each and every one of us have something to share in the blogosphere, so just be selfless and help anybody in need of it (in any possible way that you can). You’ll meet some amazing people and maybe even build life-long friendships; in turn they’ll give you the love and support you need to make your blog a success. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Do you see yourself still blogging in three/five years time: (Is this a trick question?) OF COURSE! Writing comes naturally to me; I don’t think it will ever just disappear. I enjoy every second and want it to last forever! (Don’t you?).

What’s one of the best things about being a blogger: Doing what I love is extremely important to me; it keeps me excited and content (you have this duty that was never there before, and you want to fulfil it). On a more personal note, the best thing to happen so far to me as a blogger is meeting Mary and completing my first commission. I have to give her all the credit for interviewing me and promoting my work on her blog (cheers to Mary!). I also love the rush of happiness you get when someone new starts following. It’s heart-warming to know that people love reading what I write (a few years ago I would have laughed in my own face).

Has blogging helped you significantly in any other way: It’s helped me feel much more confident about my appearance and my sense of style. All of a sudden I’ve grasped who I really am (something I was previously unsure of). It’s certainly changed my life for the better. Even though I can’t predict the future, this journey of self-discovery is definitely worth the time spent.

My Journey To Become A Fashion Journalist…

So as you all know I want to be a fashion journalist rather badly, I’m not the type of girl who says it and doesn’t do my research first. Personally I have skills when it comes to researching in depth! But so a while ago I got into writing articles, I started small just writing them for my university online newspaper bearing in mind this is the first time I had ever wrote an article. Now it’s taken some time for my writing style and ability to develop but that first stepping stone of writing my first article for my University newspaper led me to writing more and more, getting good responses and views I found that I had a secret talent for writing.

I am an ambitious girl and tend to think of things I want to do or accomplish that is quite difficult and this being one of them, being a fashion journalist is a lot harder than it’s believed to be and to actually break into the industry is about as easy as smashing an ice cube with a tooth pick – Often one breaks before the other meaning that more than often the person gives up before the industry gives them a chance. But lately things have been going well, I mean there was a time when I thought ‘hmm is this going anywhere?’ but decided to hold on a little longer and after 8 months of writing articles for my University newspaper online I started to get chances to write for published magazines around my University and some amateur fashion magazines and websites which is great! I’m slowly but surely building my portfolio and give it a year and I’ll be applying for a internship and hopefully getting one somewhere fingers crossed!

So that was my little insight into how my journey is currently going, hope you enjoyed 🙂 Follow/Like/Subscribe.

Sunshine, Great opportunities and American candy

Today has been amazingly sunny and warm much to my surprise! Living in the North East I haven’t got to see much sun at all compared to back down South, but today was a really beautiful day. It makes me wish that there was some nice lakes or something nearby to walk around but there isn’t any 😦

So my day hasn’t been to exciting, but on a positive note I wrote two articles yesterday night for two different websites and they got published today! Which I’m really happy about because I’m trying to build up a portfolio for my future career as a journalist/fashion journalist and I love writing so that’s great 🙂

Although I’ve been writing articles mostly all day I’ve been snacking on american sweets that I picked up when my mum brought me when they were up here for Easter. I really love American candy, it’s so much better than English sweets and I love how bright and vibrant the American candy packaging is! I think my personal favourite is Willy Wonka’s Nerds which I’ll attach a picture below so you can see.

I just wanted to share something special as well, when my parents were up here for Easter they gave me awesome presents and one of which is something that my dad gave me which was a wonderful bracelet to wear all the time and I love it because whenever I feel unhappy, wearing it just makes everything seem better – So thanks pa! 🙂

Hope you’ve all had a wonderful day! See you tomorrow 🙂
