Day 3 – 5 things I dislike

So in this little post it is day 3 so I will be discussing 5 things that I dislike, I’ll make it short and sweet and to the point! ๐Ÿ™‚

1. Liars – What’s the point in lying, you only have to remember all the lies you’ve told and eventually liars always get caught out, plus it’s not healthy.

2. Tuna – Just yuck. It smells, it’s a fish and it looks unappetizing.

3. Bugs in my room at night when I’m trying to sleep cause they might crawl on me ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

4. Eating healthy and then having a moment of weakness eat lots of rubbish and then feel bad afterwards.

5. When I do my make up and I have to sneeze or itch my eye ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

So that’s 5 little things I dislike, there’s probably more but that’ll do for now! Tomorrow is day 4 which is what’s in my bag!ย giphy (1)

The Teen Vogue Handbook?

Aspiring to work in fashion? then this is the book for you! I found it by chance when I was scouring through Amazon and I came across this little gem when I was searching for some fashion based books and I am super glad I brought it. I have been looking for quite some time for a book that informs me of all the careers in the fashion industry, a book that had a wide burst of knowledge and contained information that would help me and I eventually found ‘The Teen Vogue Handbook’.

It was published a while ago (a few years back I think) but it has a lot of information in it from advice tailored for people wanting to be stylists to designers to editors from all the biggest names in the fashion world and it has so much to give an aspiring fashion industry lover like myself, hence why I am writing a mini review on it now because it’s rather a good book and cheap too from amazon! ๐Ÿ™‚

Uni, fashion journalism & blogging!

Hello, Bonjour, Konnichiwa, nว hวŽo, Guten Tag, Hallo!ย

So I have been gone a long time and haven’t posted in a while, however I am back and I am hoping that this summer I will get time to blog quite a bit so fingers crossed! Since I haven’t blogged in a while, I think you all deserve a reasonable explanation and that is because last month I had an incredibly difficult amount of university work due in the same week and it meant a lot of hours staying up till the morning, barely eating and being overly tired ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Luckily however now I have finished my university work and my second year at university and I am home for summer!

Before I broke up for summer I was planning on doing quite a lot of things this year and I am still hoping to do them at some point like first aid and learning to drive but something which I have been thinking about more lately is my old dream of becoming a fashion journalist. For those of you who were with me from the beginning, you’ll remember I wanted to be a fashion journalist and I put all my time and effort into juggling my university work and writing for various magazines, in total I wrote over 30 articles published both online and in print format so that was successful for me however eventually it all got a bit much and I couldn’t juggle the two much longer, so I gave up writing for magazines and at this point I was writing for at least 6 or 7 different upcoming or amateur magazines so it was a lot to give up after working so hard on it but it had to be done. After a long long long break of not writing, lately I have been looking into getting back into the fashion world! I want to write articles again, so I went and started writing for some of the ones I use to write for but now I am looking into other areas of fashion as well which might be interesting like photography and styling (I don’t know if I’d be any good but that’s why you learn and try!).

I’m not completely sure which direction I want to go into for my future career but there is three different industries I am thinking about which is fashion, teaching or health care and I have routes planned for all of them – so we will all have to wait and see what next year holds ๐Ÿ™‚

Other than that, I’ve been worrying a lot about various things like finances and health, but I am still smiling so that’s good! ๐Ÿ™‚

Well I hope you’re all well and I am back now!

“Why, Hello Old Sport!” – Great Gatsby Flapper Dresses

โ€œI hope she’ll be a fool — that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.โ€ – Daisy Buchanan, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Great Gatsby Flapper Dress
So if you haven’t heard about ‘The Great Gatsby’ by now I am not sure where you’ve been! but don’t worry you can just Google it to catch up of course. Anyway I thought that I would do another Great Gatsby style related post, if you have been with me on my blogging journey from the start you’ll know that I did a post similar to this one about flapper dresses this timeย last year, but now more people are aware of the film and book I thought it would be good to do a bit of ground cover and go over it again!
There is something so nostalgically mystical about the 1920’s, it was a new era for everyone especially the ladies! who had come out of their Victorian shell and started to become more outgoing and independent! These ladies were fearless as it would seem, their make up was flawless and energetic and the icon of the ‘flapper girl’ came into action.
Flapper dresses were a massive hit, they were partially over the top, glitzy and extravagant. These dresses were a thing of the past until the emergence of ‘The Great Gatsby’ which revived the admiration and adoration for these loose fitting and stylish dresses.

5 things I want to buy…

So I haven’t blogged in a little while and that’s because I’ve not been feeling so well lately but luckily I went to the doctors and I should be feeling much better soon! I have a ton of blog posts to write and I am trying to squish them all out so you all don’t get to bored of me (I hope you already haven’t haha) If you’ve been tagging along on my blog you’ll know I attempted the 30 day photo challenge, sadly I flopped that because I only managed to get to day 19! (Sorry!) However I’m on the look out for other lists/challenges and such to try so if you have any suggestions pass them my way! ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway so I thought I would do a little post about 5 things I want to buy when I have enough money because I am always adding stuff to my mental list in my head! So lets begin…

  1. Running shoes – This is the constant excuse I use for not doing exercise, the lack of proper footwear to do such strenuous activities! I do actually want to get a pair though, running in converse isn’t fun nor comfortable.

  2. BooTea Tea – A ‘teatox’, I’m not usually one for these sort of products as I rarely believe in them however after a good duration reading their website and also looking at other girls results on twitter, I’m going to give it a go just purely because I am trying to be more healthier from this point onward. (Google them if you’ve never heard of them, it’s worth it!)

  3. Soap & Gloryโ„ข Thick & Fast Flash Extensions Mascara High Definition Collagen Coat – I was looking for a long time for a new mascara, I like to keep my make up natural but I like my eyes to stand out and I don’t really use liquid eyeliner that much so I like to choose a mascara that gives me lots of definition and ‘oomph’ shall we say.

  4. Ritual Fortune Scrub – I got my first taste of the Ritual products from a magazine a while back (Perhaps GLAMOUR? Can’t remember!) and I tried the Ritual Fortune Scrub, now when I got my sample with the magazine I was surprised it was a full blown big bottle not the tiny little itty bitty samples you usually get so I was excited and hopeful that I liked this product because I had a ton of it in this sample. IT SMELLS LIKE PARADISE! literally, I feel like I’m on holiday in an exotic paradise when I use this! I usually don’t rate shower gels or scrubs because I’m never that impressed but this one is different! If you’ve tried it you’ll agree where I’m coming from and if you haven’t then you can buy it online quite cheap I believe ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Eyebrow threading – Okay so I have something to admit, I shaved off one eyebrow BY ACCIDENT! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ You’d think I’d know better, but was totally accidental (I bet you’re all laughing now) So I lost my tweezers and as a student I couldn’t afford to have my eyebrows threaded/waxed again for a while so I quickly used a razor to try and get rid of the bottom hairs and the razor caught the rest of my eyebrow in the process! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ (If you weren’t laughing earlier bet you are now) So for a while I’ve been using an eyebrow pencil and you can’t see that it was shaved off viciously but now they’re kinda grown back (HOORAY!!!) so soon I shall pay for my eyebrows to be threaded ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s my 5 things I need to buy when I have the money, I hope you enjoyed it! Comment/like/subscribe/Tweet if you like lovelies! ๐Ÿ™‚

Millie ‘n’ Mae Boutique – Brown Vintage Carriage Scarf and Tan Brown Leather Bracelet Promotional Present with discount code*

A long time ago I came across a very sweet and unique boutique called “Millie ‘n’ Mae” and I loved this online boutique because it seemed to sell such quirky and cute things! I emailed them and asked to do a blogging promotional exchange and they happily agreed, so lucky me I got to review two of their beautiful items from their online store here on my blog for all your lovely followers to enjoy!

The boutique sells items such as necklaces and bracelets as well as scarves and other various fashion fun pieces, if you’re looking for a signature piece to complete your outfit then I suggest taking a look here! Not only is the service incredibly fast and friendly, they made me feel more than welcome and were happy to always help! I excitedly received my parcel in the post from “Millie ‘n’ Mae” and took a peek at the treasures inside, I had chosen to review a brown vintage carriage scarf made of 100% polyester and a lovely tan leather brown magnetic clasp bracelet.

The quality of these items was good and they really looked lovely! I loved the colours of the scarf as it can be worn with a variety of vests, t-shirts or even dresses and the bracelet looks really exceptionally well made, I love that it has a magnetic clasp as it makes it easier to take off and put on as well.

Overall I would say the whole interaction with the store has been more than pleasant and very jolly which is always great ๐Ÿ™‚ Millie ‘n’ Mae were also kind enough to give all my followers a further 20% discount from there already reasonably cheap prices which is utterly lovely of them and I am sure my followers will love to browse around their online boutique!

The discount code is: URBANITE20

There are photos below of the items, but as I am home from university and my usual photographer is not over at the moment I had to take some self shots! Please excuse the camera quality as the real life items are so much more beautiful in real life ๐Ÿ™‚

Make sure you take a look at their home page here:ย http://millie-n-mae.co.uk/ย and they also have Twitter as well so be sure to follow them and show your support for there ever emerging business! https://twitter.com/MillienMae

Going Nautical This Summer

So the temperature has cranked itself way above the normal average for England and has made it perfect beach weather and what better way to shine with style at the beach than dressed in one of this summer’s favourite wardrobe trends – Nautical!

Looking like a sailor has never been so fun! In the past if you told somebody you wanted to look similar to that of a man that stays on a ship for long periods of time, you probably would’ve just got some weird looks and glances. But now thanks to marvelous world of fashion this vibrantly quirky reoccurring trend is making its debut once again!

Think anchors, ships, blazers with gold embellished buttons and stripes! Blue, red and white are the most commonly associated colour with the nautical trend and it’s such a great style to pull off because the colours are so complimenting of each other. This summer however all our favourite stores and retailers are quickly equipping nautical themed stock, there will be a mass of our favourite clothing pieces mixed with this quirky and fun style and will be sure to bring the sailor out of you!

My 5 Most Favourite Shampoos you must try!

Okay so I never use to really care about my hair until a certain stage in my life when I really enjoyed styling and spending time on my hair looking nice. Now it is a constant regime and I need to always make sure I find some really good shampoos and conditioners to use on my hair, ones which will not make them greasy or to fine.
So I thought I would share my top 5 favourite shampoos I have tried and love still and see what you think!

  1. Aussie Colour Mate/Beach Mate/Miracle Moist
This brand has always allured me to it! If it wasn’t so expensive I would buy the whole range…I love this brand because all of the shampoos I have tried all smell so delightful and beautiful. Not only do these products by Aussie smell good the shampoos really work and they make my hair feel so much more clean and nicer afterwards as well as using quality ingredients!
  2. VO5 Plump It Up
Well if you saw my blog post about a week ago it was on the VO5 Plump Me Up shampoo I purchased. I love it because it feels like my hair actually has some volume to it (I have fine hair!) and its weightless as well meaning it doesn’t feel overly bulky or leave residue in your hair afterwards.
  3. Lee Stafford Poker Straight
Now this was one of the first ‘designer’ salon sort of shampoos I tried in my teenage years, the bottle was party pink and everything lured me towards it the description, the colour and definitely the smell! There’s many reasons why this is on my list, for starters it’s not as expensive as you may believe and it is reasonably cheap for a salon designer shampoo, secondly it smells amazing! and thirdly it makes your hair less frizzy – so a definite win!
  4. Herbal Essences Uplifting Volume
Like I said I have fine hair which can be a pain sometimes, however very rarely I come across a shampoo which actually does what it says and gives an uplifting weightless look, till I tried this one!
  5. Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil And Creamy Aloe
When I was at university I couldn’t afford the good stuff ๐Ÿ˜ฆ So after some looking around in some other beauty and hair shops I found this, it was different and I thought it would give my hair a boost and revitalize it a little! The formula is not too thick, smells good and cleans hair thoroughly not to mention it always made my hair soft as well which I loved! Also great if you want to try and grow your hair as well ๐Ÿ™‚

Let me know what you think! ๐Ÿ™‚
