“Why, Hello Old Sport!” – Great Gatsby Flapper Dresses

“I hope she’ll be a fool — that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.” – Daisy Buchanan, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Great Gatsby Flapper Dress
So if you haven’t heard about ‘The Great Gatsby’ by now I am not sure where you’ve been! but don’t worry you can just Google it to catch up of course. Anyway I thought that I would do another Great Gatsby style related post, if you have been with me on my blogging journey from the start you’ll know that I did a post similar to this one about flapper dresses this time last year, but now more people are aware of the film and book I thought it would be good to do a bit of ground cover and go over it again!
There is something so nostalgically mystical about the 1920’s, it was a new era for everyone especially the ladies! who had come out of their Victorian shell and started to become more outgoing and independent! These ladies were fearless as it would seem, their make up was flawless and energetic and the icon of the ‘flapper girl’ came into action.
Flapper dresses were a massive hit, they were partially over the top, glitzy and extravagant. These dresses were a thing of the past until the emergence of ‘The Great Gatsby’ which revived the admiration and adoration for these loose fitting and stylish dresses.

Going Nautical This Summer

So the temperature has cranked itself way above the normal average for England and has made it perfect beach weather and what better way to shine with style at the beach than dressed in one of this summer’s favourite wardrobe trends – Nautical!

Looking like a sailor has never been so fun! In the past if you told somebody you wanted to look similar to that of a man that stays on a ship for long periods of time, you probably would’ve just got some weird looks and glances. But now thanks to marvelous world of fashion this vibrantly quirky reoccurring trend is making its debut once again!

Think anchors, ships, blazers with gold embellished buttons and stripes! Blue, red and white are the most commonly associated colour with the nautical trend and it’s such a great style to pull off because the colours are so complimenting of each other. This summer however all our favourite stores and retailers are quickly equipping nautical themed stock, there will be a mass of our favourite clothing pieces mixed with this quirky and fun style and will be sure to bring the sailor out of you!

So on Friday just before I came home I went and had them done, I chose three outfits and these were the pictures – very happy with them! 🙂

Style Hot Spot: IBIZA

I went to Ibiza for my 16th birthday but it wasn’t a generic ‘lets go party my life away’ holiday it was a beautiful family holiday and my 16th birthday present from my parents! Ibiza is such a beautiful island, really unforgettable, if you haven’t visited then go! There is something for everyone whether you want to party or just relax.

So it got me thinking about holiday fashion, specifically fashion in Ibiza and what I wore when I went and things. Something that I thought of was the fashion style that people adapt while they go away for example someone who usually wears jeans and baggy tops everyday will change when they go on holiday and you’ll see them in long brightly coloured maxi dresses and such and I love the contrast and adaption people take on – Even I do it! So I thought I would do a little fashion hot spot post about fashion in Ibiza because the styles and varieties of clothing are so broad and creative, So if you go to Ibiza check out a few of these outfits to get ideas!

Bright colours is what it’s all about and in Ibiza everyone loves vibrant and bold outfits, contrasting tones of outfits as well is something that makes a great statement for example mixing a black skirt with a burnt orange vest could make the style statement of the year you never know till you dare to mix and match! Shorts, heels, long maxi dresses, cut out vests and denim jackets seem to always be holiday favourites so why not give them a go yourself? Just don’t wear your heels on the beach! But then that is common sense haha 🙂

Grab The Great Gatsby Style: Flapper Dresses

With the upcoming release of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel ‘The Great Gatsby’ which is to be released in May there is an air of excitement and thrill. As many of you may know if you have watched the trailer that the movie will be starring famous actors and actresses such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan and that’s not all everyone is looking forward to seeing, many are thrilled to see the glitzy and beautiful fashion trends that rocked the 1920’s, the era in which the novel and film take place in.

I love the 1920’s flapper dresses the most, I like the way they accentuate the women’s curves whenever a lady wore one and the way they compliment the body. They came in a range of colours and styles which makes them the ultimate Great Gatsby piece! Bold embroidery and soft colourful hues make these dresses look irresistible to say the least.

Throughout the Great Gatsby novel and film we as the audience are aware of the apparel of many of the characters and this being a favourite among many women. This Summer many people will be looking to recreate the Gatsby style and flapper dresses are a sure way to go!
