I’m back to blogging!

Hello again! It’s been so long since I wrote a blog post, my last one seems so long ago! I took a break because I started my final year at university and I wanted to put in more effort than the previous two years and plus I was starting my dissertation and that takes up a lot of time, but I am back to blogging. I missed it a lot and missed the community too so I thought I’d slightly update my blog and then post my first new post of 2015 and since I broke from blogging last year.

Well I’m glad I am back and I hope that you will stick around to read the upcoming posts! 🙂

Uni, fashion journalism & blogging!

Hello, Bonjour, Konnichiwa, nǐ hǎo, Guten Tag, Hallo!

So I have been gone a long time and haven’t posted in a while, however I am back and I am hoping that this summer I will get time to blog quite a bit so fingers crossed! Since I haven’t blogged in a while, I think you all deserve a reasonable explanation and that is because last month I had an incredibly difficult amount of university work due in the same week and it meant a lot of hours staying up till the morning, barely eating and being overly tired 😦 Luckily however now I have finished my university work and my second year at university and I am home for summer!

Before I broke up for summer I was planning on doing quite a lot of things this year and I am still hoping to do them at some point like first aid and learning to drive but something which I have been thinking about more lately is my old dream of becoming a fashion journalist. For those of you who were with me from the beginning, you’ll remember I wanted to be a fashion journalist and I put all my time and effort into juggling my university work and writing for various magazines, in total I wrote over 30 articles published both online and in print format so that was successful for me however eventually it all got a bit much and I couldn’t juggle the two much longer, so I gave up writing for magazines and at this point I was writing for at least 6 or 7 different upcoming or amateur magazines so it was a lot to give up after working so hard on it but it had to be done. After a long long long break of not writing, lately I have been looking into getting back into the fashion world! I want to write articles again, so I went and started writing for some of the ones I use to write for but now I am looking into other areas of fashion as well which might be interesting like photography and styling (I don’t know if I’d be any good but that’s why you learn and try!).

I’m not completely sure which direction I want to go into for my future career but there is three different industries I am thinking about which is fashion, teaching or health care and I have routes planned for all of them – so we will all have to wait and see what next year holds 🙂

Other than that, I’ve been worrying a lot about various things like finances and health, but I am still smiling so that’s good! 🙂

Well I hope you’re all well and I am back now!

Saturday Blogger Interviews – Ashlyn Shore

Name: Ashlyn Shore

Location: Vancouver, BC

Age: 23

Facebook/Twitter: @Ashlyn_Shore (No Facebook)

What sort of things do you blog about most:
I blog about anything really, but usually it’s book reviews and articles. My articles are about writing tips, advice, story structures, anything that may be useful to other writers. Sometimes I post short stories to let my readers know what my writing style really is. My book reviews are usually about books I’ve read and loved, but also the books that aren’t as popular as Harry Potter or The Hunger Games. I even blog about my opinions of things, like books and movie adaptions.

Name three words to describe your blog: inspirational, informative, and creative.

When did you first start blogging:
A little while after my birthday, exactly on June 28th 2013, so not that long ago. One day I just woke up with hundreds of page views and followers, it was a dream come true for any blogger. I actually tried blogging a few years back, ultimately failing to attract readers and I gave up on all of them. I’m glad I continued with this one, though!

Why did you begin to blog:
Before I began blogging, most of my friends and family knew I took creative writing seriously. I wanted to express myself through my writing, but clearly it wasn’t strong enough. Then one day a friend came up to me and suggested I start a blog to express my thoughts and feelings about writing. I considered it and created my blog through Blogger. It was actually quite fun, and to this day I feel that I can truly express myself in any way through my blog.

What’s one blogging tip that you would share with other potential bloggers:
Focus on the content of your blog, what you have written, the appearance, and manage all your useful widgets. Don’t waste your time attracting readers if there is nothing good to read. Always remember, content first, promotion second.

Do you see yourself still blogging in three/five years time:
I see myself blogging until I publish my first book. There is no way to tell when that will be, but surely more than four years. I will continue to blog and help boost confidence in others as my writing skills improve. Even after I publish a book or two, I won’t abandon my blog, but instead, expand my knowledge and share even more with my ever-growing number of readers.

What’s one of the best things about being a blogger:
One of the best things about being a blogger is connecting with your readers. Usually, your readers are those who have similar interests with you, which is what draws them to your blog. When you connect with your readers and make friends with them, you can exchange advice and ask them what they would like to see on your blog next. That way, your blog will become even better and your readers will like how you consider each of their opinions. It’s also great to run into another blogger. They can give you tips and secrets that will help enhance your blog. So it’s always great to connect with those around you whether through blogging or in life.

Has blogging helped you significantly in any other way:
Through blogging, I learned to grow through my writing and have confidence in myself. Before I would be more reluctant before writing something in my stories, but now I would just take the chance and go back to it later in my second draft. Sometimes you just have to take the chance follow your heart in the right direction it takes you. Blogging has definitely boosted my confidence and made me a better person.

Name one thing that inspires you:
Nature. I’m more country than I am city and I absolutely adore strolling through gardens and forests. Sometimes when I hear a rustle in the bushes nearby, my inner idealist takes over. There could be anything in there, from a fairy to a bear! I like taking photos of my surroundings when I’m hiking a forest trail or relaxing in a garden. That way, I can always look back at them at home and maybe spark an idea for another story to post on my blog.

Cultural Fashion From Around The World Appreciation

So I was thinking how much the media only really ever concentrates on Western style and fashion when in fact there are some amazingly beautiful cultural pieces from around the world that I think should be appreciated more and deserve the time to be on my post.

In many different countries there are special or religious pieces of clothing that have a significant meaning behind them and in some countries they dress in certain pieces of clothing as part of their cultural identity which I believe we should see more with regards to fashion instead of it just being Western dominated, so without further ado here is my little blog post on some beautiful cultural fashion I found on the internet 🙂 I found some of these great photo’s from a really lovely blog called http://universalbeauty.tumblr.com/ which I recommend taking a look at as well!

I love all these pieces of clothing featured in these photos, each item is special or beautiful in many ways and I love the colourful and pretty designs as well – Hope you like them tool! 🙂

Disclosure: This blog post was not meant to cause offense and I hope it hasn’t, it was purely made to spread appreciation of worldwide cultural fashion 🙂

Things I Miss From My Childhood

So everyone has things they miss from their childhood right? You may agree on some of these things with me, I myself was born in 1993 and the thing’s I am about to list are things that I loved when I was growing up! 🙂

Here it goes 🙂

  • Watching cartoons– Remember Arthur? Little bear? Rupert? Those shows made my childhood!
  • Sega Drive – When I first played on my SEGA drive I never knew I’d grow up to love video games so much, thinking back to the graphics and quality of games to now is crazy!
  • Pokemon – I miss the mornings I got to watch Pokemon whilst getting ready for school, it was too cool.
  • Inflatable chairs – One of the best things ever…I had an inflatable green chair, I remember when everyone was going crazy for inflatable things, I even had a backpack! After I blew it up of course first.
  • Tamagotchi – Not the new ones that are around today but the really old kind of tamagotchi and I got my first one on holiday and it was baby pink and in the shape of an egg, my parents brought me and my siblings all one and I loved mine thought it was incredible.
  • Films – I once watched a film with my dad called The Tenth Kingdom, as scary as it was this was a great film still and even to this day after 13 years of it’s release and of me watching it I still remember the key parts!
  • Barbies – I had various barbies but my favourite was one that was mermaid whose tail changed colours in the bath and one where I could highlight her hair with some accessory thing I got with her, I miss these.
  • Stick on earrings – Those tiny little stick on earrings that came in the shape of moons and hearts, I liked them but they often got stuck in my hair or somewhere and I usually only ended up with one left…
  • Beanie Babies – I collected them for a long and perilous amount of time, there are bags of them at my parents house.
  • Jelly shoes – I proudly can say I owned a pair of silver glittery jelly heeled shoe sandals that I wore everywhere, even school. Apparently they sell them in some retailers now for adults so may just grab a pair! 🙂
  • Furbies – I had a furby and it was grey, I loved it till it kept me up all night every night with its talking and squeaking…then it found a nice home in the spare room away from me.

Well that is all for now guys hope you liked that little insight 🙂 Subscribe/follow or like 🙂

My Travels to Belgium, Helsinki, Ibiza and Japan.

So I thought I’d write a little piece on some places I have been before because as you know I love travelling! I intend to travel a lot more when I finish University and get a decent stable career to fund my travels. I think my main purpose of travelling is the fact that I want to see the world, I love learning and experiencing different cultures and seeing famous buildings and monuments. All of this excites me! I haven’t been to loads of places because I only got my passport in my teenage years and so I have only been to a few places but that was enough for me to realise I love travelling, I love the excitement of getting to the airport, seeing the planes, the take off and landings, the butterflies in your stomach when you know you’re in the air finally and them little meals you get on board!

So with that in mind I thought I would share with you the few places I have been before up until now.

Belgium – This was a school trip to Ypres in Belgium. We went as a history class to visit the battlefields, museums and Menin gate, we actually only went for one day so it was a pretty long day as we had to get a ferry there and back (My first time on a ferry). Because it was my first time on a ferry I had no idea what to expect, I’m petrified of the sea (well going in it! I still think it’s beautiful though) and I was worried the whole way that the ferry would sink. I think I even googled it the night before we went how to survive if a ferry sinks! Silly me! Anyway the whole trip was alright and we got to visit some great historic places and at the end we were allowed to go into one of Belgium’s best chocolate shops 🙂

Ibiza – This was a birthday present trip from my parents for my 16th Birthday. It was the first time I ever stepped foot on a plane and I loved it! My dad ordered us food for the journey and I was so excited, they had planned it so we left two days before my birthday so I turned 16 when I was out there. We went to an all inclusive resort called Palladium Palace in Playa Den Bossa and was right on the beach! With two massive outdoor pools, food 24-7 and comfortable rooms I was in paradise! I’m a big nature person so when we got to Ibiza I was so thrilled to be able to see little lizards up so close and other exotic animals and birds – Even saw Flamingos! We toured round most of the island and went to Las Salinas (Well known celebrity hot spot with a beautifully stunning beach) we also went to Santa Eulalia, Portinatx and other great towns 🙂

Helsinki – On the way to Japan (I’m getting to that after this!) We stopped briefly in Helsinki and I loved the fact it is the home of the moomin, everything I saw to buy was moomin based and it was adorable! But Helsinki was also very beautiful and natural as well with very polite people.

Japan – So in 2011 I went to Japan to visit my brother who lives there, I was a bit nervous about this journey as it was 16 hours long with only an hour stop meaning this was the longest journey I will probably ever go on… I was excited though to see my brother and experience Japanese culture for a week. When we boarded the plane we got bottle of water, pillows, blankets, headphones and eye masks for the long journey ahead of us. The journey actually was quite fun but tedious in places, I stayed up most of time just listening to music from all around the world on the in seat computer and thinking, we got there early in the morning and the time difference made me slightly jet lagged so when we got to my brothers apartment we slept for a few hours and then we all went out so my brother could show us his local area – Nagoya. He showed us some really beautiful temples and shrines, wildlife and views from the city. The next couple of days was spent touring areas, shrines, temples and shops of Japan, which was awesome! We went to Nagoya, Kyoto, Sakai and various other cities, but I think my favourite place was the Kiyomizudera Temple in Kyoto it was beautiful to say the least! I loved this place especially because I got to have a go at the Otowa waterfall where there is three streams of water and you get given a cup on a long stick and you choose to drink out of one of the fountains, each has a different benefit (Love, Success in school or Longevity I believe) but I loved this temple and all the other little parts of it because it was set in the beautiful mountain side with amazing views.

All in all this is a little bit on my travels and in the future I hope to add some more ! 🙂 (Photos from Japan below, Sadly I lost most of them from Ibiza, Helsinki and Belgium 😦 But there is two from Ibiza but they’re terrible quality! But all photos are mine)
