Paper Towns By John Green – Book Review!

“She loved mysteries so much she became one”

I love love love to read, well only if it is a book I get into completely because I hate reading books which do not capture me because I know I will end up giving up reading it and then would’ve felt kinda crappy about not finishing something someone spent a majority of their life writing but that’s just me. The kind of books I tend to go for are a little older than young adult, I don’t like anything too serious or morbid and prefer something with a little lighthearted tone or underlying message, however contradicting myself I must admit I did and still do enjoy the ‘A Series Of Unfortunate Events’ series by Lemony Snicket.

However enough rambling! I brought ‘Paper Towns’ by John Green after reading another one of his books called ‘Looking For Alaska’, now I was really impressed with ‘Looking For Alaska’ and I initially got it because I saw on the GoodReads website that it was popular and well recommended and after reading it (took me four days) I can see why! However I wont start talking about that book because I am here to write a review about ‘Paper Towns’, the book itself is witty and filled with funny passages as well as parts that as a teenager or young adult (even an adult!) you can relate to which makes the book itself all that much more appealing.

There is something special about how the book itself is written and how the characters and their internal and external relationships with each other are portrayed, but I also loved that this book was unlike any other I have ever read it was not the generic plot I was expecting but something much more different and inspiring as well as adventurous!

(SPOILERS BELOW SCROLL DOWN TO KEEP READING)

The story itself is in short about a boy called Quentin Jacobsen and his fascination and love for a wild and adventurous girl called Margo Roth Spiegelman whom he does not speak to at all until one night she requests his help getting her revenge on those who have wronged her and we are thrown into a world of revenge, love, fun and adventure while we follow their night of mischief however the following morning when Quentin arrives at school Margo is no where to be found and she has disappeared! At this point in the book I was like “Ahhh where did she go! I hope nothing bad has happened to her!” but to my relief the rest of the novel follows Quentin and his friends on a road trip following clues Margo has purposely and non purposely left for them to follow all over the place near and far which leads them to her in the end to a place far away where Margo admits she left and her and Quentin say goodbye once again.

So all in all it was an excellent book which I will read again and again because it is a favourite of mine! Pick it up and have a read if you feel like this is the book for you 🙂

Hope you enjoyed my review!

Kimonos and Capes

So the fact that it is Autumn has taken its toll on what I wear, sadly the times of dresses, shorts and vests are long gone because the weather is bitterly cold and windy lately and lets not forget the rain! So I have been wearing items that are more warmer as well as comfier and two trends that I really love this Autumn are capes and kimonos, they are creative and colourful as well as comfy and stylish and a great autumn/winter must have!

Image

Kimonos have been in fashion this year quite a bit I don’t think the trend has died down once and I doubt it will for a long time and for a good reason, they are stylish and comfortable and that’s all we care about in the colder months. Many retailers and online stores sell some really lovely kimonos that look fantastic and I really wish I had the money to go and buy them all but sadly that’s a dream! With this in mind, capes are also very much in trend and desire, for many of the same reasons as kimonos and fortunately I am lucky enough as I brought a red and black cape last year and it is a staple wardrobe piece that I love to wear with t-shirts and jeans and all sorts of combinations!

Definitely a key piece to anyone’s wardrobe and a star buy 🙂

Things I love about Halloween!

Hello, Hello, Hello…I know I haven’t blogged in a while and that is because I had my birthday on 12th October (I am 20 now!) and I have been doing a lot of university work and also as you mostly all know I write for a few magazines as a freelance journalist on the side to gain experience and add to my portfolio so both of those things are hectically time consuming! Sorry! But I am back and I will try to blog a bit more so stick around 🙂

So for my post I thought I would choose the topic of Halloween, which is a pretty obvious one since it is October! I think October is probably my favourite month followed by December as it’s all frosty and leafy and just all round cosy 🙂 But back to my topic of blog post, so I thought I would do things I love about Halloween! So lets start…

1. Candy Apples/Caramel Apples/Toffee Apples – So delicious! Although I prefer the caramel outside rather than the actual apple.

2. Pumpkins – Who doesn’t enjoy a good pumpkin carving? Inside the pumpkin smells a little but once you get past all the seeds and gooey bits it is pretty fun to carve a little face into it and I love how it looks all spooky when the candle is lit inside.

3. All the shops, stores and houses get prepared for Halloween – Fake cobwebs, pumpkins, fake zombies, pretend tombstones, spiders, bats and blood everywhere!

4. Candy Corn – Something I found like a year ago, it is an American sweet that we don’t have over in England but we can find it in some special American sweet shops here and they taste amazing!

5. Dressing up – Although I dress up for Halloween a lot less than when I was a child and people’s choice of outfits may have changed into more mature selections I still love to dress up and be all spooky if I can.

So that’s what I love about Halloween! What about you?

Beverly Hills Formula Total Breathe Whitening Toothpaste Mini Review

When I saw my mum yesterday she gave me this – Beverly Hills Formula toothpaste and I decided to do a little review on it as it is something that I have seen many times in the shops but been unsure whether to buy it as many toothpastes as you know will promise whiter teeth in a unimaginable time span! So when my mum brought me it I decided to give it a go and here is my little mini review on it…

lkj

The box brightly states whiter teeth in ONE MINUTE, yes that’s right ONE minute! How is this possible you ask?!?! Well if you read the back of the box it says that if you leave the toothpaste on your teeth for one minute it will be more effective once brushing, so if you’re like me and desire those pearly celebrity whites then you’ll try anything! I left it on last night for the suggested time and then brushed my teeth and obviously there is no change straight away but I’m hoping that after a week or so I’ll see some sort of results 🙂

The paste itself is not overpowering like many other brands and gives subtle minty hint to your breathe which is always good with a toothpaste unless you like the extra strong minty smell then this one probably is not the brand for you. I’ll let you know the results in a week whether there is any improvements! 🙂

Collection 2000 Colour Pout Lip stain Review

I brought this about a week ago in a local beauty store because I was getting fed up of my lipstick not staying all day and I love beautiful vibrant lips!

The shade I got was in Kiss which is like a dark pinkish/natural sort of shade I guess it could be said, I had a tough time picking which one out of the collection was closest to my natural lips and it happened to be this one because my lips are naturally quite dark pink anyway.

So once I got home I excitedly tried it on and found that it was super easy to apply to my lips and wasn’t bulky or thick either like some others. Because it is shaped as if it was a pencil it makes it easy to draw the outline of your lips which is something that most girls dream about! Instead of fussing over smudges or uneven lines or application.
I also love the taste and smell of it as well, sounds pretty weird and I’m not sure if that’s a feature of the product or just me – but something that smells good and doesn’t leave a horrid taste in your mouth if it accidentally gets in there is a win by my standards.

Well anyway with long lasting durability, great easy application and beautiful shade of colours I’d rate this quite highly.

My top 5 favourite Tv shows!

Everybody loves watching TV right? Or maybe you don’t…Anyway I love watching certain soaps, drama’s and TV series and I thought I would share my favourite ones with you guys!

Okay so here’s my top 5 favourite list:

  1. Hollyoaks – British soap that usually is on either Channel 4 or 4+ but I tend to watch it on 4od which is catch up only because at my halls there is no TV so I have to watch things on catch up 😦 The cast are all mostly crazy or weird but that’s what makes it interesting to watch, there’s also a high frequent amount of deaths and murders, cheating and general craziness in the show.
  2. Eastenders – Another British soap based on a square in London, long story short no one lives a happy normal life in Eastenders and there is ALWAYS some sort of crazy out of the blue drama but that’s why I watch it 🙂
  3. Ugly Betty – I love this! Even when the season 4 ended I still went back to season 1 to watch it all over again and I probably will purchase the box set soon as well. I’m sad that there’s no season 5 because I got really into but it’s still an all time favourite anyway! I think this was a big hit with many because most people sympathized with Betty and loved to see her battle her way through the fashion industry with her crazy dress sense and colleagues.
  4. Suburgatory – This is a relatively recent one that I started watching just before I came to university and I still love it now. It’s about a girl who moves from Manhattan wit her dad to a suburban town called Chatswin. I love the craziness of the town and all the characters as well, definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it!
  5. Family Guy/American Dad/Simpsons – Okay so I cheated a little and put these three into one category, but there sort of the same thing anyway so I thought you wouldn’t mind! I love these because I love animated comedies, I also like most of the humor in them as well, I love the special episodes the Simpsons do on occasions such as Halloween and I love American Dad and Family Guy bevause of the characters as well. So these definitely make it on the list.

So now you know my fav TV shows you’ll know what I’m gonna be watching later haha 🙂

Hope you enjoyed, Follow/Like/Add on Twitter.

Sunshine, Great opportunities and American candy

Today has been amazingly sunny and warm much to my surprise! Living in the North East I haven’t got to see much sun at all compared to back down South, but today was a really beautiful day. It makes me wish that there was some nice lakes or something nearby to walk around but there isn’t any 😦

So my day hasn’t been to exciting, but on a positive note I wrote two articles yesterday night for two different websites and they got published today! Which I’m really happy about because I’m trying to build up a portfolio for my future career as a journalist/fashion journalist and I love writing so that’s great 🙂

Although I’ve been writing articles mostly all day I’ve been snacking on american sweets that I picked up when my mum brought me when they were up here for Easter. I really love American candy, it’s so much better than English sweets and I love how bright and vibrant the American candy packaging is! I think my personal favourite is Willy Wonka’s Nerds which I’ll attach a picture below so you can see.

I just wanted to share something special as well, when my parents were up here for Easter they gave me awesome presents and one of which is something that my dad gave me which was a wonderful bracelet to wear all the time and I love it because whenever I feel unhappy, wearing it just makes everything seem better – So thanks pa! 🙂

Hope you’ve all had a wonderful day! See you tomorrow 🙂
